Goal 1 - Meet and maintain Annual Yearly Progress in English for No Child Left Behind
Improve and maintain VA PALS Assessment scores the following levels:
Pre-Kindergarten
Kindergarten – 80% of all Kindergarten students to meet or exceed the benchmark
Meet and maintain Annual Yearly Progress in English for No Child Left Behind at the following levels
Strategies used to meet these goals:
Utilize the Russell County English Curriculum Pacing Guides for Kindergarten through lesson plans and measured in teacher observations and evaluations of student progress
Implementation of Journey’s Reading series for Pre-K and Kindergarten that provides necessary resources to teach critical thinking skills
Implementation of Debbie Diller Reading Model in grades Pre-K and Kindergarten to provide whole group, small group and literacy station instruction to all students
Implementation of literacy station instruction to target performance levels
PALS Assessments to determine readiness and target specific weaknesses to be addressed
Small group remediation through PALS
Student participation in Accelerated Reader Program for enrichment
Data disaggregation to monitor and modify student instruction
Provide small group student remediation for students scoring below the benchmark for PALS
Provide Title I Targeted Assistance in reading through small group and technology instruction
Provide remedial instruction within 21st Century Community Learning Center After School Program
Goal 2 - Meet and maintain Annual Yearly Progress in Math for No Child Left Behind
Improve and maintain student progress for Mathematics for state accreditation at the following levels
Strategies used to meet these goals:
Implementation of a research-based SAXON Math and BIG MATH FOR LITTLE KIDS for Kindergarten
Utilize Russell County Mathematics Curriculum Pacing Guides for Kindergarten
Assess student progress using pre-test and post test, as well as 10 lesson intervals for SAXON
Provide technology based instruction through the use of Smartboards in all classrooms using web-based resources
Provide Title I Targeted Assistance in math through small group remediation and technology
Goal 3- Meet and maintain Annual Yearly Progress in Attendance Rate for No Child Left Behind
Student Attendance
Improve the average daily membership for Copper Creek Elementary School to 98%
Strategies used to meet these goals
Provide awareness of parent / student responsibility to ensure daily attendance through the use of Russell County Conduct Code
Implement classroom incentives to reward student attendance
Implement phone calls and parent conferences pertaining to truancy issues
Provide necessary meetings with Russell County Truant Officer
Goal 4 - Instructional Technology
Establish and maintain an enriched technology program that will prepare students for success in areas of reading and mathematics
Strategies used to meet these goals:
The use of technology in all classrooms using Smartboard technology
All students will receive lab-based technology instruction bi-weekly
All students will receive keyboarding instruction
Installation of Accelerated Reader in all Kindergarten classrooms
Installation of Smartboards in all PK and Kindergarten classrooms
Goal 5 - Parent and Community Involvement
Establish a school climate which closely involves parents, community and stakeholders to provide necessary tools to build successful students
Strategies used to meet these goals:
Weekly classroom newsletters to all parents
Web page maintained monthly
Monthly articles in the local newspapers for school **
Monthly articles in local newspapers for 21st Century
Provide monthly calendars / menus for parents, students and staff
Communication folders issued to each student weekly
Provide parent / teacher conferences when needed
Provide a Parent / Resource Center for take home books and materials
Annual Fall Festival and Spring Festivals for students and families
Active Parent Volunteer Program
21st Century Community Learning Center Partnerships work actively with school programs
Russell County Mini-Grant Partnerships provide materials for classrooms
Goal 6 - School Safety
Provide a safe environment for students and staff:
Strategies used to meet these goals:
Yearly inspections by the Fire Marshall
Yearly inspections by OSHA
Monthly fire drills
Safety drills for tornado and school evacuation
Bus evacuation drills
Surveillance cameras installed at all entrances
Cafeteria inspections by Russell County Health Department
School accident reports submitted to Central Office
Adequate staff for morning and afternoon bus duty on premises and on shuttle buses to Castlewood
All doors have working locks in place that will lock from inside
First aid, CPR and defibrillator training for sufficient staff
Diabetes training for 2 staff members other than the school nurse
Daily access to a school nurse
Guidance counselor on campus 1 day a week
Aides for students with physical limitations
Handicapped parking facility
Three personnel trained to used defibrillator
Seven personnel certified in CPR
