Before/After School Program

The ASPIRE Before/Afterschool Program at Honaker High School provides a variety of in-person and virtual academic and enrichment opportunities, as well as tutoring, remediation, homework help, and technical assistance.  All students at Honaker High School are eligible to register for the ASPIRE Program.

2023-24 21st CCLC ASPIRE Program Information

The program will operate in the afternoons Monday - Wednesday from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM and in the mornings Monday - Friday from 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM. Please see the schedule for available sessions, as well as a description of each session! Register using the Google form provided on the grade level Google Classrooms or pick up paper registration form in the main office.

Sessions Descriptions:
Opportunity School/Homework Help/Tutoring : This session is provided to help students be
proactive in improving their grades and attendance. Students receive assistance from certified
teachers with their homework and make-up work, as well as tutoring in problem areas. This session is student-specific and can also be utilized to complete make-up work.

AM Kickstart
The purpose of this program is to provide students with a recreational opportunity to walk or play
sports in the morning before school.

STEM
The purpose of this session is to provide exposure to a variety of modern technology. Students will have access to a 3D Printer and learn how to design objects and print them, as well as engineering with LEGOS. Students will also be working to engineer a variety of robots. Student work will be showcased on Google Classroom and in the school library.
Fitness/Intermediate Weight Conditioning - The purpose of this session is to provide a variety of
fitness and weight training exercises to build strength and stamina. Exercises will be modified to fit every fitness level.

Chess Club
The purpose of this club is to introduce and instruct students on the game of chess. Chess has been shown to increase mathematical abilities, aid in critical and analytical thinking, and increase academic performance.

Media Club
The purpose of this session is to introduce students to the history of media and learn each of the
different outlets. Students will also create a monthly newsletter to showcase their findings.

G2 (Geography, Too) Club
The purpose of this club is to provide a creative outlet to explore, learn, and discuss the geography and culture of the different countries of the world.

Book Club
The purpose of this club is to enable students to choose, read, and discuss a variety of books, which lead to a deeper understanding of their reading and developing deeper understanding of other people through their conversations.

Music and More
The purpose of this session is to offer students a creative outlet to express their musical skills.
Students will be introduced to a variety of instruments and instructed on how to play and read music.
