LEBANON — The Pioneers suffered a tough loss to Virginia High on Friday. There was a bright spot. Early in the second quarter, senior Andy Lambert hit a jump shot to surpass 1,000 points for his career.

“Growing up, I was always around this team; my dad (Thad) was the head coach here,” Lambert said. “I’ve seen a lot of great players score 1,000. Since I was seven years old, it’s been one of my dreams. I’ve worked hard to get to this point; I’m just so thankful to everyone who’s been a part of it throughout the years. It means a lot to me.”

Having his dad on the sideline as an assistant coach was also notable this season.

“One of my favorite things growing up was waiting for November, then coming with my dad to practices,” Andy said. “When he said he would help this year, it’s a great way to go out as a senior. I couldn’t have wished for a better year.”

The Southwest District tournament begins next week. Lambert and the Pioneers hope to make some noise.

“All the guys know the job is not finished,” stated Lambert. We have to keep coming in and getting better each and every day. I’m confident in our guys and feel good going into the tournament.”
