At one time he was referred to as all-state multi-sport star Heath Miller at Honaker High School.

He was known as Mackey Award winner and All-American tight end Heath Miller at the University of Virginia.

In 11 NFL seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers he became two-time Super Bowl champion and Pro Bowler Heath Miller.

You can now call him Coach Heath Miller.

St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesville, Virginia, announced on Monday that Miller will coach the Saints of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association during the 2024 season.

He replaces Joe Sandoe, who recently accepted the gridiron post at Greater Atlanta Christian. STAB went 6-3 last season.

“I hope to build off of the solid foundation that Coach Sandoe has worked tirelessly to build,” Miller said in a press release. “It’s my goal to field a team that models the proper values on the field and off.”

Miller and his wife, Katie, have four children in the STAB school system.

This is an invaluable experience for our football players to be coached by someone who has played the sport at the highest level,” STAB administrator Autumn Graves said in a release. “And while many will focus on his impressive stats as one of the Steelers’ most renowned players, I know what is most meaningful to Heath as a parent at our school is that he will have the opportunity to model excellent leadership, teamwork, and character development for the future generation.”

Miller becomes the second Southwest Virginia legend to coach at a private school in Charlottesville. Former Tazewell High School star and MLB relief pitcher Billy Wagner is the head baseball coach at The Miller School.

The 41-year-old Miller also joins fellow former NFL tight end Jason Witten (Elizabethton) as a high school head coach. Witten led Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Texas, to a state title in 2023.

A quarterback in high school, Miller led the Honaker Tigers to Region D, Division 2 titles in 1999 and 2000 with the latter of those squads finishing as state runner-up. He also excelled in basketball and baseball.
