Hunter Dye was awarded a take down in the final match of the VHSL Class 1 (113 lb.) state tournament that gave him a 3-0 lead. However, later in the match that take down was taken away and the match went back to 0-0. His opponent escaped to take a 1-0 lead, but with only 17 seconds left Hunter got a take down to take a 3-1 lead. Another escape made the score 3-2 but the horn sounded and Hunter was able to claim the first State Championship in school history. Hunter, who lost the previous year in the state finals to the same opponent, was able to breakthrough and overcome the previous year’s disappointment to claim the VHSL Class 1 State Championship.
