HONAKER — After taking a step back early last season, Honaker varsity softball coach Donovan “Jelly” Helton has returned. Helton encountered serious health issues and decided not to continue coaching in early 2025. Assistant Ginger Hilton served as interim head coach in his absence.
“It’s one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make,” he said. “It was a solid team, and I didn’t want to be a distraction. It reached a point where I physically couldn’t do what I normally do; I felt I needed to step down, let someone else take over, and get out of the way. I thought it was the best decision to let them move forward without me.”
