Honaker 66, Grundy 16
Parker Lowe is five games into his varsity football career and has already produced a plethora of highlights.
Honaker’s freshman phenom was at it again as he established a single-game program record with seven touchdown passes for the Tigers as they blasted the Grundy Golden Wave.
Lowe was 15-of-19 through the air for 304 yards and now has 21 touchdown passes on the season.
“The linemen have been playing better each week as the season has went on and the receivers have been running crisp routes and making me feel comfortable in the pocket,” Lowe said.
Avery Musick (six receptions, 129 yards, two TDs), Tyler Hubbard (two catches, 81 yards, two TDs), Kamden Beavers, Jeremiah Rose and Blair Clark caught scoring strikes from Honaker.
Just for good measure, Beavers threw a TD pass to Braydon Justice in the fourth quarter.
Maddox Sykes, Haiden Miller, Logan McGuire, Peyton Duty, Jakobi Nunley and Keaton Stilwell excelled on the offensive line.
Grundy (1-4) committed four turnovers with Eli McGlothlin returning an interception for a score. McGlothlin also had eight tackles, Sykes had seven tackles and Blair Clark blocked two punts.
“It was a great win for us,” Lowe said. “Our offense played great. The linemen stayed on blocks and blocked great. I didn’t get sacked once tonight. Our receivers ran great routes and expected the ball every play. We spread the ball around tonight as five different receivers scored. Our defense has been playing lights out. We are all ready to get back to work Monday and get ready for Chilhowie.”
Trey Taylor (14 carries, 101 yards) scored both touchdowns for Grundy, which is allowing 50.2 points per game.
The 66 points were significant for Honaker. The Tigers (2-3) lost 66-30 to Grundy in the first round of last year’s Region 1D playoffs.
