One of the elite wide receivers in Southwest Virginia has caught the final pass of his high school football career.

Honaker senior Avery Musick found out on Monday following an MRI that he had torn the ACL in his right knee and is out for the remainder of the 2025 season.

“It was something I did not want to hear,” Musick said. “I thought everything was going to be good but unfortunately it was not.”

The injury occurred in the closing seconds of the first quarter in Honaker’s 22-7 loss to Chilhowie on Oct. 3.

After catching a pass from quarterback Parker Lowe, Musick was brought down by Chilhowie’s Tyler Gonzalez and that is when the injury occurred.

“I went to cut across the field and got tackled and my knee folded underneath me,” Musick said. “I knew it was pretty bad, I just did not think it was going to be as bad as it is.”

Musick was limited to 3 ½ games this season – he suffered a shoulder injury in a season-opening setback to Lebanon and was sidelined the following week against Ridgeview – but still put up impressive numbers in Honaker’s Air Raid offense.

He finished the season with 35 catches for 808 yards and 12 touchdowns.
