Honaker 62, Castlewood 58

The Honaker Tigers did not win a game during the 2024-25 season.

They are 1-0 to begin the 2025-26 season.

Jeremiah Rose led the winners with 15 points, while Colton Lowe (14 points) and Aaron Lowe (13 points) also scored in double digits.

“We’re very young and started four freshmen tonight,” said Honaker coach Aaron Lowe. “The kids come out and played hard for four quarters. Castlewood jumped on us early and our kids stayed the course. … We made some plays down the stretch and it awesome to see our guys make those plays.”

Tru Ruff fired in 17 points for Castlewood, while Ayden Skeens supplied 16 points.

Honaker plays Russell County rival Lebanon on Wednesday.

“We’ve got to get back in the gym [Tuesday] and be ready to go,” Lowe said. “As far as [Monday], we’ll take it.”

Cadence Rose scored 17 points as defending VHSL Region 1D champion Honaker opened the season with a win over Russell County rival Castlewood.

Carey Keene (12 points) and Julianna Farmer (10 points) also scored in double digits for the Tigers, who closed the first half on a 22-2 run.

Anna Summers led Castlewood with 10 points.
