Honaker 54, Grundy 49
Julianna Farmer and Carey Keene made some key plays in the second half as the Honaker Tigers rallied for a 54-49 girls basketball victory over the Grundy Golden Wave in a marquee non-district game on Monday night.
Honaker (4-2) trailed 23-20 at halftime in a matchup of teams who are the preseason favorites in their respective districts. Honaker is the favorite to reign once again the Hogoheegee District, while Grundy should rule the Black Diamond District as usual.
Farmer scored 10 of her game-high 18 points in the second half, while Keene collected 11 of her 15 points over the final two quarters.
Farmer also had seven steals, while Cadence Rose yanked down eight rebounds.
“We battled a rough start and early foul trouble,” said Honaker coach Misty Davis Miller. “But we played better in the second half to get the win.”
Sophia Belcher led Grundy with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Adyson Bell (13 points) and Jade Vencill (11 points, five steals) also scored in double digits.
