HONAKER — Derrick Murphy had a successful first year as head baseball coach at Honaker. The Tigers placed third in the Hogoheegee District behind Chilhowie and Patrick Henry. Honaker finished as the runner-up to the Warriors in the district tournament. They lost 6-5 to Eastside, the eventual champion, in the Region 1D semifinals.
“Expectations are high, but we still have work to do,” remarked Murphy. “We return a lot of veterans and will be adding some young guys who have played a lot. I think it’s a good combination for us.”
